OUR STORY

Subsequent to the motion introduced in parliament to debate the legalization of abortion on demand in Namibia in June 2020, attempts were made to coordinate the efforts of the church and to develop a church response to abortion on demand. After several meetings held with pastors across the country to deliberate on the church response to abortion on demand, a decision was made to form a coalition of churches, like-minded individuals and organizations. The purpose of the Coalition would be to mobilize churches and like-minded individuals in all 14 regions to collectively respond to the debate on abortion in the country. This led to the development of a strategy on ethical social justice that broadens the scope of the Coalition to address topical social issues of national concern as one voice. The formation of the Christian Coalition of Churches in Namibia on Ethical Social Justice in 2020 was officially registered in 2022 and the name shortened as the Christian Coalition of Churches in Namibia. The Christian Coalition of Churches in Namibia is registered as a non-profit organization in terms of Section 21 of the Companies Act, with registration number 21/2022/0850.

WHO WE ARE

The Christian Coalition of Churches in Namibia was founded in June 2020, with the purpose of bringing together churches, church networks, faith-based organisations (FBOs) and like-minded individuals in all 14 regions, to collectively address national issues of moral and ethical concern. The Coalition of Churches creates a platform for church leaders and spiritual gatekeepers to develop sound and well-informed interventions based on biblical principles, to authoritatively engage government and established institutions: on public policy and legal reform. The Coalition of Churches therefore works to strengthen the voice of the Church in Namibia and its role as a major stakeholder in nation building.
